About

The Belgian Economic Missions are co-organised by the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency together with the three regional institutions in charge of foreign trade Wallonia Export-Investment Agency (AWEX), Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT)hub.brussels and the Federal Public Service (FPS) Foreign Affairs.

They are presided by HRH Princess Astrid, Representative of His Majesty the King. The Federal and Regional Ministers competent for Foreign Trade usually represent their respective governments on these missions. Senior officials of various Belgian administrations also participate.

On average, two such missions are organized every year. They attract a large number of participants of the public and private sectors (companies, federations, universities, etc.). Numbers vary between 200 and 600.

The aim of these missions is to promote Belgian foreign trade. They also contribute to enhance economic ties and collaboration between Belgian and overseas partners.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

The duration of a Belgian Economic Mission varies between 3 and 6 days. Depending on the country, one or several cities are visited. The programme is packed with official, political, economic-commercial and networking activities. Participating companies can expect a busy agenda:

  • Tailor-made B2B meetings are organized by the regional agencies for the promotion of Foreign Trade.

  • Seminars give local players a good idea of Belgian know-how. These conferences are also an opportunity to discover the priorities of the local authorities and their main projects.

  • Lunches, dinners and networking receptions in the presence of HRH Princess Astrid, Representative of HM the King, offer interesting opportunities for high-level contacts with Heads of State, local Ministers and top-level businessmen, ...

  • Many participating companies also take advantage of the presence of HRH Princess Astrid, Representative of HM the King, to formalize trade agreements during the signing ceremonies. The presence of a member of the Belgian royal family and of several Ministers makes it possible to conclude contracts more quickly and is often an excellent promotion for Belgian companies.

  • Site visits to local companies or Belgian investments are sometimes also organized. The presence of HRH Princess Astrid, Representative of HM the King and Ministers is only considered when following criteria are fulfilled: a new investment, a welcoming at CEO level and logistically realistic (accessibility of the venue and timing).

  • Furthermore, the Belgian Economic Missions receive a large media coverage in the Belgian and local press from which the companies can benefit directly or indirectly.
